Ylang Ylang Pottery: My 50th Birthday Gift to Myself

Turning 50 is a moment of deep reflection and celebration. For me, it marks not only a milestone of years lived, but a reaffirmation of purpose—and a return to a love that’s always been quietly blooming alongside my passion for bronze sculpture: pottery. As a sculptor, I’ve long embraced the permanence and strength of bronze to honor history, heroism, and legacy. But with Ylang Ylang Pottery, I am stepping into a softer, more personal expression—my 50th birthday gift to myself.

Ylang Ylang Pottery is born from my deep love for life, nature, and wildlife. Named after the delicate and fragrant flower that reminds me of my childhood in the Philippines, Ylang Ylang is more than a studio—it is a sanctuary for storytelling through clay. Where my bronze sculptures speak of courage and memory, my pottery speaks of beauty, stillness, and inspiration drawn from the natural world around me.

Each handcrafted piece will reflect the spirit of the landscapes I’ve walked, the wildlife I’ve observed, and the places that have spoken to my soul—whether it’s the quiet forests of Colorado, the coastal rhythms of the Pacific, the summer birds in my backyard in Texas or the vibrant greenery of Southeast Asia. With my hands in the earth, I feel connected to both my roots and my dreams.

This journey is not just about making pottery—it’s about slowing down, listening to nature’s quiet wisdom, and shaping that into something tangible, useful, and beautiful. Ylang Ylang Pottery will be filled with organic forms, earthy textures, and the kind of imperfections that make each piece soulful and unique.

At 50, I choose to celebrate by creating something that celebrates life itself. Ylang Ylang Pottery is my way of giving thanks—for the past, the present, and the unfolding story ahead.
