Elaine Antonio Bordeaux is a Filipina American sculptor based in Colorado, USA. She was born in the Philippines and started drawing since she was a child. She had to put her passion in art on hold when she became a lawyer in the Philippines at the age of 25. She then migrated to the United States and became a lawyer in New York in 2008. She attended Loyola School of Law, New Orleans where she received her Master of Laws, US Laws with the highest academic recognition. While Elaine dedicated most of her time as a lawyer serving immigrants in the United States for fifteen years, she never forgot her passion and gift in art. In 2016, Elaine started making art again and made a commitment to fulfill her passion in art. She received art trainings from various prestigious institutions such as New York Arts Students League, New York Academy of Art, Barcelona Academy of Art and Houston Baptist University (HBU). In 2018, she moved to Colorado and started a body of sculptural works in bronze which captivated iconic courage people in history. This was the beginning of “Courage exhibition”.
In October of 2023, Elaine was awarded 2023 Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World Award by the Filipina Women’s Network (FWN) in Prague. 16 awardees were selected from 35 countries. This year, Elaine’s biographical record was included in Maquis Who’s who in America. Last July, she unveiled the bust sculpture of World War II Filipina American woman hero Magdalena Leones. Elaine aims to address the pervasive issue of gender inequality and the historical underrepresentation of women’s contributions. By highlighting the heroism of Magdalena Leones, Bordeaux sends a powerful message that women can excel in various fields and play pivotal roles in shaping history, thereby breaking down barriers that limit opportunities based on gender.
Elaine’s work represents her life, her faith, and her beliefs taking a very personal approach to her subject matter. She draws on her experience of living as an immigrant in the United States, her Filipino heritage, and her aspirations for the community that she serves. The diversity of life, embodied through elements of courage, love, beauty, and strength, is an inspiration and each sculpture shows admiration for the person featured. She often focuses on courageous people as her subjects, empathizing with each individual story and struggle. This connects to her own approach to life and my journey as a refugee lawyer in the United States where she advocated for victims of forced migrations. Courage Exhibition is a body of work in bronze representing courageous people who struggled, fought, and suffered to give hope, freedom, equality, and love. Courage has been successfully exhibited in Colorado (Oct 5-6, 2023), Barcelona (Oct. 16-30), Madrid (Nov-7, 2023), San Francisco (July 8-12, 2024). Courage exhibit will travel to Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, London, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
